The paper is an attempt at an etymological analysis of the Komi language lexis, which had previously been treated as BaltoFinnic by origin. Special emphasis in the work is placed on broad coverage of the material, including data of Russian national dialects. It is noted that simple detection of data of BaltoFinniс origin in the Komi language continuum does not always testify to direct PermianFinnic contacts. Of utmost importance is consideration of possible foreignlanguage interaction, even if a unit is autochthonic and native to the language continuum.
