Structural impurities in quartz are practically unremovable during quartz dressing and are, therefore, responsible for the dressability limit of quartz. The study of structural impurities at the early stages of appraisal of quartz deposits is one of the most essential criteria for assessment of quartz quality. The results of the study of structural impurities in different genetic types of Karelian quartz are presented. It has been found that quartz, metamorphosed at low temperatures to form secondarily recrystallized quartz, contains a minimum amount of structural impurities, whereas granulated quartz is most heavily contaminated with structural impurities.
