The Red Data Book of Karelia includes 51 species of birds, i.e. 17 % of the total number of species registered in Karelia. Of these, 22 species are nationally red-listed [2001]. The Red Data Book of Karelia contains comments concerning changes in the list of protected species. The current status of rare and protected species of birds in Karelia is briefly described.
