Kormshchikova Z.I. Comparative analysis of high-modulus bauxites as raw material for construction material // Mineralogical and technological evaluation of useful mineral deposits and problems in mineral opening. Petrozavodsk: KarRC RAS, 2011. Pp. 158-163
This paper reports a study of mechanical properties of bauxite ceramics. The influence of the form of corundum grains, composition of the glass phase and solid solutions of mullite and aluminum titanate in the corundum matrix on mechanical properties of bauxite ceramics. Basically bauxite is used for the production of aluminium, corundum refractories and abrasives. Chemical composition of Timanian bauxites is as follows (wt.%): Al2O3 – 80-85, SiO2 – 4-10, TiO2  6, Fe2O3  4, other impurities are present in trace amounts. There are several reasons to use Timanian bauxites as a starting material for corundum ceramics production. We have measured flexural strength, fracture toughness in three-point bending and Vickers indentation fracture toughness for ceramics produced from Timanian bauxites (Komi Republic) with modifying additives
