Article deals with publications in the newspaper «Murmansky Put» (Petrozavodsk, 1917) devoted to traveling in the area of just built Murmansk railway and to the adjoining territories. It is shown how authors of the newspaper materials perceived social changes in the North of Russia in the context of socio-political transformations dating back to the period of the railway construction. Close attention to poorly studied sources in a genre of the travelogue allows us to track aspects of railway builders' everyday life, ethnocultural specifics of space of construction and features of new revolutionary time in the history of White Sea-Region Karelia and the Kola North at the beginning of the XX century.
