The Russian Society of Parasitologists, founded on October 21, 1992, pursues the mission of promoting and coordinating parasitological research in the country. Previous congresses widely covered the achievements of society members in various fields of theoretical and applied parasitology, demonstrated the growing use of modern research techniques in systematics, evolution, and phylogeography of plant and animal parasites. Much attention was given to the analysis of host-parasite relationships, including their molecular aspects, and to the structure and dynamics of parasite populations and communities.
All these aspects of parasitology are proposed for discussion at the next, 7th Congress of the Society of Parasitologists. On top of that, taking into account the over 30-year-long history of the Society, it is suggested that the participants recapitulate on some outcomes of the society’s activities, evaluate the current state of its regional infrastructure, and draft the means of building up and strengthening interregional parasitology networks. Particular attention should also be given to finding the ways to up-rank the key parasitology periodicals, first of all the Russian Journal of Parasitology.
