Congratulations to Aleksey Tarasov, Head and Senior Researcher of the Archaeology Section of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History KarRC RAS, on successfully defending the Doctor of Sciences dissertation!
On March 29, 2023 Aleksey Yu. Tarasov defended the dissertation for the Doctor of Historical Sciences degree (specialization 5.6.3. Archaeology) before the Dissertation Council of the Institute for the History of Material Culture (St. Petersburg).

Dissertation topic – "Material production and exchange in North-Eastern Europe of the late Neolithic / Chalcolithic period (case study of the Russian-Karelian-type tool industry)”.

For the first time in Russian archaeology, Aleksey Tarasov investigated a specific industrial tradition within the stone tool industry, focused on manufacturing one category of tools (chopping tools) following a single technical and morphological model localized in time and space. He comprehensively studied the extraction of raw materials, the technology of their processing, the spatial organization of the manufacturing process, the distribution of the end products originating from a single production center, and the context-specific features of archeologization of the items. The study is mostly based on material from the author's field surveys conducted in recent years and the database of findings of Russian-Karelian type items he has compiled.
