The article discusses some issues concerning morphology of buds on long shoots (auxiblasts) of Betula pendula var. pendula and B. pendula var. carelica. Intense development of intrabud structures during the spring wakening of the trees is shown. The participation of buds of B. pendula var. carelica in formation of new embryonic leaves on a larger scale as compared to the type variety is revealed. This is suggested to be caused by their better supply by sugars.
