Comparative study of phase transitions and properties in ceramic masses, depending on the mineral composition of a filler and thermal treatment temperature, was conducted. The ceramic masses consist of Cambrian clay and fillers: a magnetic fraction and slurry – Yeletozero alkaline syenite dressing waste and talc-chlorite schist from Kostomuksha deposit overburden. The study of the ceramics has shown that at 950 and 1100оС fillers that contain Mg-Fe silicates (amphibole, pyroxene, chlorite, biotite and talc) intensify caking by eutectic melting of finely dispersed clay mineral and filler grains to form an amorphous phase, which makes it possible to improve the mechanical strength and water absorption of ceramics in comparison with a largely feldspathic raw material (slurry).
