The urgent issues concerning development of tourism and pilgrimage in such a unique place of Russia as the Balaam Archipelago where a small (in area extent) protected natural area is a place of being of the most important orthodox monastery, the settlement and a place of mass arrival of pilgrims and tourists is examined in the article. The supported proposals are based on the summarizing of the century-old historical experience that the Balaam monastery has.
