This paper considers the cosmogonic features exhibited peripherally in the epic “The Singing Match”. In this epic, two heroes compete in knowledge and their dialogue brings to light a stratum of ideas about the creation of the world and the structuring of the universe in Karelian tradition. This paper analyzes motifs of shaping of the sea bed, staring the sky, the origins of constellations, the rainbow, the first mountains, the pillar(s) of the sky or air, and other features.
