The paper considers the potential the Finno.Ugric (Uralic) word.building suffix .ŋ has in Mordvin, the Khanty and the Mansi languages. Its genetic affinity in the named languages is proved, and the main semantic functions are analyzed. The phonetic modifications the suffix has undergone in the Moksha language are traced.
