In the soil cover of Karelia latitudinal zoning ha been observed. In the northern taiga subzone podzol-gley soils dominate in the soil cover while in the middle taiga subzone podzol soils do. In the low highlands of the northern taiga subzone the vertical zoning is pronounced. Highly partitioned relief and frequent replacement of parent materials have determined the extreme diversity of the soil cover. The changes in the soil cover composition due to the replacement of relief elements have been shown.
