Data is provided on the species richness and geographical structure of the flora of 7 towns in
southern Karelia (Kondopoga, Medvezhjegorsk, Olonets, Pitkaranta, Pudozh, Sortavala and Suojarvi).
A total of 892 vascular plant species have been identified. The number of species in the towns ranges from 394 (Olonets) to 583 (Sortavala). The geographical structure of the native component of the flora in the towns has retained the basic typical characteristics of the regional
native flora, whereas the geographical structure of the flora at large has deviated markedly owing to an increase in the number of south-affiliated species.
