New data, obtained by the lithogeochemical and microprobe study of silicate immiscibility-liquation products in Proterozoic (Suisarian) picrobasaltic melts in the Jalguba ridge unit, Central Karelia, are presented. The results of the geochemical study of mineral parageneses and the composition of liquation phases are discussed. Variolite formation is shown to be related to in situ metastable “low temperature” liquation that occurred in lava flows, sheets and individual pillows after their outpouring.
