The mineralogical aspects of shungite rock - water interaction were studied. Genetically different shungite rocks were shown to differ in interaction pattern, which depends on both chemical and mineral composition and is accompanied by weathering and the formation of new mineral components upon hydrolysis. The weathering of shungite rock-forming minerals depends primarily on the washing-out of some elements, so that their crystallochemical formulas are changed.
