Problems in the integrated assessment of the impact of the construction and maintenance of the main ground gas pipeline on the environment and evaluation of environmental risks for the Republic of Karelia are put forward for the first time. It is shown that the risks are structurally complex and could be interrelated. A principal model, showing the interaction of various risks caused by the construction and exploitation of the pipeline, was developed. The environmental risks, arising at all construction and exploitation stages, are likely to have various negative consequences for living organisms and ecosystems.
