For the monitoring of long-term changes in the projective covering of Mytilus edulis four plots (size 1.10 m) were chosen in Kandalaksha bay: Turij cape, Porya bay, Ryashkov and Oleny island. Analysis of obtained data has shown that mollusk communities become overgrown with seaweeds, mainly Fucus vesiculosus and Ascophyllum nodosum. It leads to reduction of density and biomass of Mytilus edulis as was observed on three monitoring plots - in Turij cape, Porya bay, and Ryashkov island.
