Its participants were scientists from five countries. The event is a continuation of the networking between scientists from regions of BRICS+ countries initiated by the Karelian Research Center RAS.

Archaeologists from different regions of Russia discuss modern working methods at a conference in Petrozavodsk
The All-Russian conference of archaeologists “Connecting Space and Time” is taking place in Petrozavodsk on May 14-17. About 50 specialists gathered in person at the KarRC RAS to discuss modern methods of spatial analysis in the study of the Late Stone Age of Eurasia and another 20 experts joined online. The conference is dedicated to the memory of outstanding Soviet archaeologists - A.Y. Brusov and G.A. Pankrushev, who made a significant contribution to the development of archaeological science in the country as a whole and Karelia in particular.

Scientists have collected and digitized rare letters from the frontline written in Karelian
The results of a Marathon of letters in Karelian and Vepsian were published on the eve of May 9. During three months the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History KarRC RAS conducted an interregional campaign, where participants were invited to share old letters from/to the frontlines written in the minority languages. As a result, more than 20 letters in Livvi Karelian and Karelian Proper were received. Scientists digitized them and published them with transcripts and translations on a special web resource.

Karelian biologists ran successful trials of a technique for detecting fish infection with helminths based on traces of their DNA in water
Specialists of the Institute of Biology KarRC RAS were the first in the republic to test the method of environmental DNA analysis (eDNA) to detect a model fish parasite in an area impacted by trout farms. This is especially important in the context of a growing number of fish farms that use the practice of transporting stock (fry) from between water bodies, which creates a risk of new parasites appearing in lakes. Currently, fish have to be captured and examined to detect an infection, and for the output to be accurate the sample should be at least 15 fish. This may be problematic in the wild and costly in cage facilities. The eDNA diagnosis system can detect the presence of parasites directly in water samples.
